Rambam Bekius
The Experience of Using the Mishneh Torah to Answer a Halachic Question
Show Notes

This afternoon (3/24/22), in our Rambam Bekius chavurah, we went on a little adventure. In his first mission statement for the Mishneh Torah the Rambam promises that his work will contain the answer to every halachic question that needs to be answered: either he will answer it directly OR he will "mention the foundation from which the answer to that question can be derived easily without too much analysis." Obviously, there are many who believe that the Rambam failed in this regard. But what might it look like to take the Rambam at his word? How would the experience of answering a halachic question using solely the Mishneh Torah differ from arriving at an answer through the more mainstream ways? In today's shiur I attempted to convey that experience by using the Mishneh Torah to answer a question that was posed to me by a student I tutor.
