Rambam Bekius

Nidui in a Dream (Hilchos Talmud Torah 7:12)

May 24, 2022 Rabbi Matt Schneeweiss Season 8 Episode 16
Rambam Bekius
Nidui in a Dream (Hilchos Talmud Torah 7:12)
Show Notes

This afternoon (5/24/22), in our Rambam Bekius chavurah, we aimed to explain the perplexing halachos of "nidui in a dream." Halachically, why should we care about the contents of a dream here when we disregard them in all other areas of halacha? Why are the requirements for being released from a dream-nidui different and more stringent here than by a normal nidui? What is the nature of this nidui anyway? We succeeded in developing an approach based on other Rishonim, but we have yet to determine what the Rambam would say. We will endeavor to do that tomorrow (בג"ה).

Bekius Disclaimer:
Note that this is a bekius chavurah - as opposed to an iyun shiur. Each session consists of us reading through the Rambam's writings together without much preparation on my part, and without going into depth by consulting commentaries or primary sources. For all these reasons, there are bound to be inaccuracies, errors, and other types of shortcomings which would not be acceptable in a prepared shiur, but are quite typical of a bekius chavurah. Please bear this in mind, and know what you're signing up for when you listen!
