Rambam on Dreams: A Desperate Gambit to Understand "Dream Nidui" (Moreh ha'Nevuchim 3:26)
Show Notes

This afternoon (5/25/22), in our Rambam Bekius chavurah, we tried once more to understand the strange case of "dream nidui" - this time, according to the Rambam. We began by reviewing his basic definition of nevuah and what he holds about the imaginative faculty. We then read part of a chapter in the Moreh ha'Nevuchim where he talks about dreams to see if that might help us to understand his halacha. I then gave what I introduced as an intentionally bad sevara. I did this because I wanted to talk about WHY this was a bad sevara, from a methodology standpoint. Although we didn't end up figuring out the Rambam's sevara here, it was still an interesting sugya. We plan on continuing to the next halacha tomorrow (בג"ה).

Bekius Disclaimer:
Note that this is a bekius chavurah - as opposed to an iyun shiur. Each session consists of us reading through the Rambam's writings together without much preparation on my part, and without going into depth by consulting commentaries or primary sources. For all these reasons, there are bound to be inaccuracies, errors, and other types of shortcomings which would not be acceptable in a prepared shiur, but are quite typical of a bekius chavurah.
